InfoDoc® is all about personalised information.
It uses Internet-based technology to deliver specific health advice information to patients and their carers. The system can also offer diagnostic benefits.

The information a patient receives from InfoDoc® is similar to what they would receive during their first consultation with a general practitioner. This includes relevant personalised information relating to an illness or medical condition delivered from the comprehensive InfoDoc® database.

The information InfoDoc® supplies is tailored to the patient’s individual requirements and can be presented via a personalised web page or printed out by the patient or GP as a reference document.

The patient can interactively select via a website from a number of parameters such as age, sex, lifestyle, language, ethnic background, health status etc. They can use InfoDoc® to build their unique health profile to enable personalised health information to be supplied that meets their own specific circumstances.

InfoDoc® provides health professionals with a useful information technology management system that they can easily use and modify. The complete information management process is integrated from start to finish. InfoDoc® handles everything from data collection through design and production to final publication of the information via the Internet.

InfoDoc® also supports health professionals such as doctors, nurses or other care providers. InfoDoc® is user-friendly and gives health professionals control of the information without needing to involve an IT manager, web master or designer for day to day operation of the system.


Text and image material in a wide array of formats can be taken by InfoDoc® to form a centralised database that can be automatically convert any output to an organisation’s house style or branding.

The InfoDoc® integrated Content Management System streamlines the complete information publication process from text and images or diagrams, to design layout or artwork and publishes the result as XML documents that can be readily transformed to be output to a wide variety of media such as Internet web page, PDF, Quark Xpress file, SMS text message or audio/video clip.


InfoDoc® uses XML (eXtensible Mark-up Language) technology as the engine to drive the information. XML is a well-proven language similar to HTML but more powerful in its capabilities because it is able to create documents for a number of media output options rather than simply just the Internet.

The transformation to a required medium takes place only when the document is requested. This manages the information more efficiently. If a small modification is required the XML approach means that only that aspect of the document will be modified within the context of the remainder of the original document be it a web page, web site, PDF etc.


InfoDoc® saves time and money. There is no longer the requirement to employ different skilled staff to manage your Internet site, your Intranet site and your printed documentation. InfoDoc® can be used to handle the same information and publish it in a variety of ways.

The intelligent templates that InfoDoc® uses enable your information to be presented and published in several different media formats and with a consistent house style or branding.

InfoDoc® automatically produces web pages with information tailored to the patient’s circumstances. Tailor made questionnaires can also be generated as can reminder messages for patient actions. The information not only includes medical advice but also information about lifestyle issues, legal information, exercise recommendations etc. A summary of the key information points is also made available.

All this information is related to the circumstances in which the users find themselves. Information can also be selected based on the time on the day, the medium used as well as the volume and the type information that is to be presented.

The technology supporting InfoDoc® enables the content management team creating and managing the content (ie the authors, designers and administrators) to work independently of each other without having to wait for one another to complete their own tasks before the next phase of the project can move forward. This saves organisations lots of time and money.


InfoDoc® features an integrated Content Management and Database Management System that gives registered contributors a quick, more intuitive method of managing site content.

Text, illustrations, images can all be added, modified or deleted using an easy-to-use web browser interface.

InfoDoc® also uses SQL database technology to enable data files from standard database programs to be interfaced.

The ‘Voorlichting op Maat’ or ‘Personalised Information’ project developed by The Health Agency has been named the winner of the Information category in the prestigious 'Best Practice' Awards organised and instigated by the NPCF (Dutch Patients Consumers Federation) and the CBO (Dutch Institute for Healthcare Improvement).

The criteria for the judging of the Information category included:

• A system to encourage patient freedom;
• A system focused on the patient’s requirements;
• A system to help patients diagnose their own health conditions;
• A system that enables a patient to have some input;
• A system to provide information and also support care providers.

An Internet-based interactive patient information system, Voorlichting op Maat has been developed using the innovative InfoDoc® XML system which scores highly against all these criteria. Patients feel that these criteria are important.

InfoDoc® provides personalised information that relates to a patient’s individual circumstances such as age, sex, the stage of an illness or complaint as well as their stage in the health care process.
The constantly available information is clear and easy to understand. Importantly, InfoDoc® enables the patient to consult information in a place or time of their choosing.

The information is delivered to the patient in the form of a personalised web page or in a printed document with a personalised code number.
The InfoDoc® concept has taken several years to develop by The Health Agency (THA), a Rotterdam-based company, which was created to develop interactive solutions for health care. InfoDoc® is just one of a series of innovations that THA has developed.
